Unimob Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2, 2026

Why this exists: Unimob was built to stop campus knowledge from disappearing when batches graduate. You're trusting us with your academic profile and the resources you upload. We take that seriously. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do (and don't do) with it. No corporate jargon. No hidden clauses. Just the facts.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including:

  • Account information: username, email address (via Google OAuth)
  • Profile details: institution, program, field of study, graduation year
  • Content you upload: resources, documents, votes, bookmarks
  • Automatically collected: IP address, browser type, device information, usage data

Engagement metrics: We track how you interact with resources (views, votes, bookmarks, time spent reading) to power our ranking algorithm. This helps surface the most useful content for your course. The top 20% of documents per subject become premium based on these metrics. We don't track you across the web or sell this data to advertisers.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Unimob platform
  • Personalize your experience by showing relevant resources for your exact course
  • Enable resource search, upload, and community features
  • Rank resources based on engagement (views, votes, bookmarks) so the best content rises to the top
  • Communicate with you about updates and support
  • Ensure platform security and prevent abuse

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. Period.

We may share information only in the following cases:

  • With cloud hosting providers (e.g., VPS, storage) to operate our services. They don't get to use your data for anything else.
  • When required by law, regulation, or legal process
  • To protect the rights, safety, or property of Unimob and its users

No data brokers. No creepy tracking pixels. We do show ads from companies that serve students (edtech, internships, etc.), but they don't get your personal data. Right now, ads are global. In the future, we plan to let companies target by institution or program so you only see relevant opportunities. This benefits everyone: you see ads that actually matter to you, and companies reach the right students. If we ever change our data sharing practices, we'll tell you upfront.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access, update, or correct your personal information via your profile settings
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us (we're a single developer right now, so we handle this manually rather than building a complex automated system)
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

We're being honest here: account deletion requests are rare, and building an automated system for it would take time away from features that actually help students find study materials. If you want your account deleted, email us and we'll handle it personally.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure.
